Product overview
Product overview
LipQ Liquorice Balm is a naturally active liquorice lip balm developed specifically for cold sore-prone lips, and for dry, chapped or sensitive lips that need everyday protection.
Unlike most cold sore products, which are only reached for once an outbreak has already started, LipQ Liquorice Lip Balm is made for daily use in between. That matters because dry or chapped lips are more vulnerable, so keeping them nourished and protected each day is one of the most useful habits for anyone whose lips are prone to cold sores. Liquorice root extract is a natural source of glycyrrhizic acid, a compound that has been studied in relation to cold sore-prone lips, and it is this naturally active ingredient that gives the balm its name.
The formula is made with naturally derived ingredients, built around that liquorice root extract together with nourishing sweet almond and avocado oils, sunflower seed oil and protective beeswax and carnauba wax to seal in moisture and keep lips soft. It has a gentle, natural liquorice scent that comes from aniseed oil rather than any added synthetic perfume, and it is free from parabens, SLS and MI. It is PETA-approved cruelty-free and, because it contains beeswax, suitable for vegetarians rather than vegans.
LipQ Liquorice Lip Balm has also been put to the test. In a double-blind, placebo-controlled consumer study carried out with the Herpes Viruses Association and funded by the Department of Health, people using the balm rated it significantly more highly than those given a placebo, and 73.3% of participants reported that their cold sores felt less severe, compared with 54.5% on the placebo. A majority, 83%, also reported shorter outbreaks compared with their previous experience. The researchers noted that a good moisturising balm is itself valuable for cold sore-prone lips, which is exactly the everyday role LipQ is designed to play.
As with the rest of the range, LipQ Liquorice Balm is designed as long-term daily care rather than a quick fix, and a single 30g tin lasts for months even with twice-daily use.
Trusted by cold sore sufferers across the UK for over 20 years, and proudly made in Britain.
